How to: Mineral Foundation

It has been already several years since I don’t use traditional foundation anymore (well, with some exception XD).

Mineral foundations are based only on natural mineral elements such as titanium dioxide, kaolin clay, mica, zinc oxide, cornstarch…
They do not contain silicons, parabens or other chemicals which often causes  allergies, sensitive skin and clogging pores.

But the main reason whereby I turned on minerals foundation is that I have fair skin and here in Italy brands do mostly only light-medium shades.
So, with minerals you can choose  among a large variety of shades, also with a lot of undertones.
To find your pefect match you have to try and try again: luckly, mineral brands sell samples so you can mix and match to customize your pefect foundation. Also, they are cheap.
A little tip: to find out if you’re cool or warm toned you haveto look at your veins. If they’re mostly blue, then you’re cool; otherwise, if they’re green you will be warm. If they are balanced you are neutral. But there are a lot of tones so you have to experiment.
I hadn’t hard times to find my perfect shade: I am fair, neutral-cool.

Application: you can do it dry, simply dusting powder with a kabuki brush, or you can mix your mineral foundation with water or cream; it’s up to you. For me, I reached for creamy formulations so I don’t have any powdery effect and I can apply it dry. But previous you have to moisturize your skin! I have normal-combination skin (during winter it is drier) and I don’t have any problem neither on summer nor in winter.

I live in Italy and due to customs duties I have unluckly a limitated choice to European brands or re-sellers. Otherwise you have to keep fingers crossed.
I tried three brands and I loved them all.

Everyday minerals: I use it in Fair, semi-matte finish (there are other three finish if you want more coverage or if you have dry skin). It covers very well without being heavy on skin. It is not powdery at all, and it feels creamy. Lightweight, it feels nothing on skin, lasts all day even on hot days.

Buff’d cosmetics: almost buttery, really high coverage. I use a mix of Cool Fair and Neutral Fair, in original formulation (pefect in winter, covers all and does not dry out skin). Its finish is really similar to traditional liquid foundation.

Elemental beauty: nice formulation, creamy texture but a bit more powdery than other previous brands. I use it in English rose and Nude, I’d like to try Oatmeal too. It contains allantoin which is really good for skin.
